This is much more than just a part-time hosting gig…We’re looking for people who really want to get hands-on and help us great create, original, informative content. The process includes finding great guests, researching and preparing topics for each week’s show and generally remaining active and engaged with both the appropriate online communities relating to your specialization as well as the ThisWeekIn community more generally. Applicants should have on-camera experience and a strong desire to grow an audience from the ground up, as well as some background and expertise in topics relating to the entertainment and technology industries. Hosts for sponsorless shows will earn $25 per episode, which goes up to $100 for shows with 1 sponsor or $200 for shows with 2 sponsors.

For all my Brilliant Hosting Skilled friends:

Its “take over the reins” not “reigns”

  • Bill Miller

So….. can you give us a loose idea of This week in -what- ? Do you have a slate of potential shows or is the idea that you'd come in and say “I'm an expert on XYZ and here's what I'd do…”

  • thisweek

Bill, both you can audition for existing or upcoming shows or come in with a
    specific show idea in mind.

  • Perry

No, no … he means “in charge of” so “reigns” :)

I really wish I didn't live on the east coast because I would love to become a part of ThisWeekIn. Even though I am only 17 I have a pretty decent following I guess for a philosophy podcast on iTunes called “Philosophy is Phun” I'm thinking This Week in Philosophy sounds good : P

Wish I would have gotten this a week or so ago. Too short of a notice unfortunately to fly from the east coast

$200 for 90+ minutes of my time is simply not worth it if I don't get creative control over what I can do with my audience. Don't get me wrong, I love what you guys have done, and I will always watch your content, but if I get a show that has over 200,000 live viewers, I would hope to get a little more than $200, with no control over monetization.

I don't doubt you will get some incredible talent, and I look forward to seeing what moves forward from this – but it isn't right for me, and I think it's not going to be right for a lot of people.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi,

Are you looking for folks to record in your studio, or to push their shows through your organization? In other-words, is this a locals only deal? Do you control the IP, or does the personality control the IP? Are you trying to establish a C-net type of group where you have a small group of people doing several podcasts a day, or a large group of people doing a small number of podcasts more like Leo Laporte's additional podcasters? Or are you establishing yourself as an adshare? Are you doing the editing and web side of things, or is the personality?

I'm asking these questions because I imagine I could monetize my own show and make that kind of money with a much smaller audience than you are likely looking for. I haven't done this as my shows typically involve eight hours or so of work on my part, and wouldn't be worth it except as a hobby that I do when I feel like.

That said there are things I would like to try that definitely could benefit from having more professional backing, but it's not clear what you are offering, and what you are taking.
