Introduction
“The Boys…The Sherman Brothers’ Story” trailer
Ed started the show by announcing that he was sitting in a new chair. His posture naturally makes it look like he’s just received a beating from an executioner.
Ed also talked about the documentary “The Boys” about the Sherman Brothers, who wrote a lot of famous songs associated with Walt Disney (like “Mary Poppins” songs and “It’s a Small World”). Jeff Sherman, the son and nephew of the Sherman Brothers, is a guest tonight, along with former KSM members Shelby Spalione and Shae Padilla. (They know go by the name Rixy Fisk). Finally, Ed will welcome comedian Geoff Bolt via Skype.
Ed also chatted about his father’s obsession with exercise and how he takes pride in his depression.
Comedy News with Julie Mitchell
Julie is excited about the show because her “signature song” growing up was “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” written by the Sherman Brothers. She performed it at many auditions throughout her school career. It helped her book everything she auditioned for, except “Mary Poppins.”
She’s also come up with an idea for a TV show on the Internet called “Betty and D.D.’s School of Acting Arts.” Check out a sample episode:
Some of the news stories:
- “Arthur”, “Overboard” and “Porky’s” remakes are coming!
The classic Dudley Moore comedy is being remade by director Jason Winer and star Russell Brand.
As well, Jennifer Lopez may star in a redo of the Garry Marshall ’80s comedy “Overboard,” about a rich snob who suffers a blow on the head, and the blue collar carpenter who uses her amnesia to exact revenge.
Finally, 1982′s “Porky’s” may be revisited and could even be retitled “Howard Stern’s Porky’s.”
- TV remakes!
Remakes may be coming for a variety of shows, including “Wonder Woman,” “Rockford Files” and “Charlie’s Angels.”
Julie thinks they should remake “Small Wonder.” Ed is glad they’re doing a remake of “Hawaii Five-O” but thinks it should be a prequel, “Hawaii Four-O.” Vicky dislikes remakes generally, but loves the “Brady Bunch” movies.
Interview with Jeff Sherman and Rixy Fisk
Jeff discussed the background of the documentary and how he became inspired to work on the project. Because of a rift in the family, he never really got to know his cousin. They met up at the premiere of the stage version of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” in 2002 and started a reconciliation process that became the genesis of the movie.
He noted that, though everyone knows many of the Sherman Brothers songs, not many people know who they were or even that all the songs were written by one duo. He wanted to use the film to cement their legacy and let people know who they really were.
Rixy Fisk then discussed the process of moving from being partners in KSM to working on their own original songs. (The name was inspired by the phrase “risky fix.”) They met up with Jeff when he was working on a pilot idea about an all-girl rock band. He ended up changing much of the screenplay, and the entire idea, to suit Shelby and Shae and their real-world experiences. They had gone from being complete unknowns to touring with the Jonas Brothers and opening at arenas.

Geoff Bolt Interview
Geoff talked about a trip to Disneyland that he found significantly disturbing. He was particularly upset to discover that Mickey Mouse is not actually real, but a man in a costume who is impersonating Mickey Mouse. He was also shocked to discover that Pirates of the Caribbean is populated by animatronic mannequins, not real pirates. He then performed some ventriloquism with his puppet, Bobby. The two are a hit at all the children’s birthday parties.
More with Jeff Sherman and Rixy Fisk
Shelby and Shae discussed their musical influences, which include “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic” as well as more pop and rock musicians like Christina Aguilera, Pink, Sublime and Alanis Morissette.
