Episode 2 5

This Week in Comedy #25 with Margaret Cho, Samm Levine, Alie and Georgia

Sundays at 6pm PDT

In the first show of 2011, Ed is back with a vengeance – his first guest back is none other than the incredible Margaret Cho who discusses everything from her comic influences to her first time on stage. Joining Ed as always are the talented Vicky Pezza and Julie Mitchell, who finally gets her own segment named: “The Julie Mitchell Effect”. To celebrate the new year we welcome back two of our favorite guests, Mixologists Alie and Georgia, who prepare a special treat for Ed just in time for a special guest to drop in. Tune in to find out who has been Breaking and Entering!

Hi all!! Welcome to the first show of 2011 – Episode #25! And we get RIGHT into it with our special guest, Margaret Cho!

Ed asks Margaret about her new album Cho Dependent (particularly the single Intervention), how writing music differs from writing stand-up, and her love of musical comedy. In our new segment “My First Time” Margaret describes to Ed the her first experience performing stand-up. They reminisce about double-features back in the day, and Margaret discusses experiences and influences during her childhood, including a story about her grandfather saving his 19 children in a fire.

She discusses what it’s like living in Atlanta and working on the TV show Drop Dead Diva. Then she tells – in my opinion – the most INSANE story EVER told on #TWiCom – upon deciding to look up an old love from her past, Margaret discovered that HE WAS A MURDERER. Insane, right?! She tells it better (0:29:25) – the details will blow your mind.

She talks about her favorite comedians – Greg Proops (on #TWiCom Feb 6th!!), Sarah Silverman, Jerry Seinfeld & Marc Maron. Check out her Cho Dependent Tour!

We say goodbye to Margaret, then Ed gives us a little sampling of the impressions/musical numbers performed in his home in his youth. His mic falls off during it – live tv, folks! Next he describes a family trip to the beach.

Next segment – The Julie Mitchell Effect! …or IS it? Julie pitches us other ideas for potential segments. (Fan favorite? “Eating Crow, Crapping Fame”) Julie’s episode of House airs January 17th!!!

Next up – ME! I start with no sound also – are we killin’ it or WHAT?! (We need our sound guy Will Thompson on the premises at all times or things get nutty). I talk about my experience seeing a show at The Comedy Store where Carlos Mencia showed up and did a surprise set, and I do it while wildly moving my arms around (North Jersey Italian Syndrome).

Next up, the return of Alie & Georgia! They chat with Ed about – what else? Therapy! (Alie is worried about getting an invoice from Ed for the #TWiCom session’s co-pay). They prepared a drink they call Cereal Killer – then, without warning…

Breaking & Entering! Geek, Basterd & Kevin Pollak Chat Show side-kick Samm Levine drops by to “class up” the ThisWeekIn Network by performing a monologue from the play – NOT the movie – “A Few Good Men.”

Next week: Andy Kindler & Tom DiMenna!

Til next time,
