Harris shared that originally John  Roberts, CTO of ComiXology, was originally slated to be on the show, but was unavailable. Instead, Harris said that the show would be a combination of news, tips and app reviews.

The Sponsor – Print Magic (3:30)

“Print Magic” Wellala is the first sponsor of This Week in iPad. The application allows users to print to any Wi-Fi connected printer directly from an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Users can copy and paste text into the application for printing and users can also print images from the iOS photo library directly. Print Magic and Print Magic HD are available from the App Store. Harris said that the app “works like a dream” and is incredibly fast.

The News (9:00)

Cisco Cius (9:00) - Cisco introduced a new Android tablet called the Cisco Cius which is a 7” mobile collaboration tool that works with Cisco’s telepresence applications. Cisco says the app is a business device and is not competitor to the iPad. Burch expressed skepticism about the device and Bracco said that the statement the Cius is not an iPad competitor is a “false statement.”

Jeff Bezos Interview (13:00) - Jeff Bezos said in an interview with Fortune this week that tablet computers are a different product category than the Kindle and said that the Kindle is targeted toward readers. Harris shared that he makes use of the Kindle application on the iPad and asked whether or not a strategic partnership between Apple and Amazon would make sense. Burch thought Amazon is already moving in that direction that Amazon will de-emphasize the Kindle hardware and focus on software. Bracco thought Apple would be well served by copying the model that it has with Audible to provide audio books.

Hulu Plus (20:00) - Hulu is launching $10.00 per month paid subscription service called “Hulu Plus.” Harris demoed the new Hulu Plus application for the iPad, but was unable to show off many of the features because he did not receive an invite. Burch said that there was no compelling content which would cause him to sign up for the service. Harris said that the price was “steep” and that Hulu needs to “sweeten the pot a little bit.”

Apps That Make Medical Claims (25:00) – Harris discussed an application which purports to teach you to become a “great lover” by showing you hypnotic content in order to reduce stress. Harris asked whether or not Apple should approve apps which make medical claims such as being able to cure a specific condition. Bracco said that Apple should add “certified” and “non-certified” app statuses to the App Store.

iPad Tips (40:25)

Tip #1 – Preform a Soft Reset – Hold the hold button and the home button for a few seconds to reboot the iPad. You can also perform a screenshot by tapping both the home and the hold buttons without holding down on them.

Tip #2 – The Dock – Users can have as many as six icons on the dock instead of the default four. Simply drag additional apps to the dock to make use of the space.

Tip #3 – iPad Peak - iPad Peek will show you what an application will look like on an iPad.

Tip #4 – Typing Tips – Harris showed that users can triple-tap text to select an entire paragraph. To go into caps lock mode, users can hold down on the “shift” button to enable caps lock. If you press the spacebar twice quickly, the iPad will add a period and a space to begin the next sentence. To get additional options to “.com” in Safari, hold down on “.com” and you’ll see options to add “.net”, “.org” and “.edu”.

Planet of The Apps  - Twitter Apps (47:05)

Twitterific (47:55) – Burch reviewed Twitterific which he referred to as “the standard, but not necessarily the gold standard.” The app supports lists and has a “fairly good interface”

Twitterina 2 (49:50) – Harris reviewed “Twitterina” said that the app was “gray” and “bland.” Harris noted that the one distinct feature of the app was a “Follow Friday” tool.

Osfoora (52:40) – Burch reviewed “Osfoora” which is, according to Burch, in line with Twitterific. He noted that the app was “icon heavy” and has a unique “tweets near me” feature which shows tweets geographically near you.  Bracco said that Twitterlator was the best location

Twitepad (56:00) – Harris reviewed Twitepad and said that the app was unintuitive, “UI Hell”, and difficult to use. He said the app was full-featured but took 20 minutes for figure out how to use.

Echofon (58:30) – Burch reviewed Echofon and said that the app was the “best of the bunch” that he tried out.

Tweet Deck (60:00) – Harris reviewed Tweet Deck which was his favorite Twitter application. He said that the app was “intuitive and well done.” Harris liked the ability to add custom columns such as search results to Tweet Deck.

Closing Remarks (63:00)

Harris thanked Print Magic again for sponsoring the show and asked for users to provide comments on iTunes or comments to @Lons or @Twiipad on Twitter.

Wow – they clicked print and it came out on a printer. Amazing camera work of the printer. It’s like 1985 all over again.
