This Week in iPad #1 – Premiere

TWiIP #01 - Premiere

Jason Calacanis, Mark Jeffrey and Jacob Burch discuss This Week in iPad.

  • http://andresiregar.com Andre Siregar

Is anybody concerned that This Week In is expanding too fast too soon? There is already TWI Android, Gadgets and now iPad (also, there are TWI Twitter, YouTube and Social Media). Jason is on so many of these podcasts. I watch the shows because of him, but I wonder if he is indefatigable enough to keep it up. I just don’t see how, for example, TWiIP can be kept interesting for 45 minutes week after week to build enough audience — especially if Jason is not around.

Hello, I feel the same as with Andre does. As of right now, Kevin Pollak and TWIST are my must watch/download shows. I will watch the iPad show until I lose interest or it runs out of material.

  • Eva

Andre, I agree. It seems a bit over stretched, especially in terms of personality where some shows are clearly lacking. I know that Leo doesn’t have a problem with Jason using “This week in”, but it feels a bit like all these niche shows are trying to free-ride on TWIT.

    LOVE THE SHOW!!!

  • k

It’s not a free-ride on twit but there’s definitely some competition going on here.
This Week In isn’t expanding too fast. There’s no such thing.
But I will say this ain’t a show I’m gonna watch.
That doesn’t mean they should discontinue it.
There’s this show on This Week In where they talk about movies and stuff, I’m never gonna watch that. But I think it’s a good thing they have that show.
This week in iPad is very similar.
I hate it when they talk about movies on twist. It’s such a waste of my time and probably the N° reason why I would stop watching twist.
I’m not talking about Gladiator, I’m ok with that but when a show tries to be all things to everybody then it loses its focus. And it becomes a waste of my time.
This week in Ipad is probably an amazing show for those who like ipad apps because all they do is talk about iPad apps.
Again, I think that’s good. Because I don’t want to hear this stuff in other shows!
Plus you can find that information all over the internet. And the groundbreaking apps are featured on sites like TechCrunch.
I like to hear Jason’s insights but I already listen to twist and this week in venture capital.
I watched this week in cloud computing. That’s a good show as well, great guests. And Jason isn’t in it.
Mark is, and the quality of the guests is excellent.
    There’s no lack of personality.
I listened to this week in android and I liked it a lot more than this week in ipad, but that’s because android ain’t a product like the ipad is.
The girls on this week in android and cloud computing are very opinionated as well.
When you got people like that, you don’t need Jason.
One thing all those shows do have in common is the iPad, they all talk about the iPad. It’s a big news event but let’s hope this trend stops.
Especially if what they’re talking about is nothing but the apps, in every show.
So yes, this week in iPad is definitely a keeper.

I enjoyed this first episode very much. I look forward to seeing what you guys roll out in future episodes. I haven’t purchased an iPad (yet), but do want one. I just have a hard time justifying the cost at this time. But till then, I can “explore” the device through this show.

I know I’m going to come off sounding like I’m being an ass for asking this but I actually mean it seriously…

Is there any way you can do the videos in HTML5 so we can watch on our iPads?

  • http://www.maciejgluszek.com/blog/ Maciek

@Andre Siregar: That’s easy. He’s building multiple shows (like blogs with weblogs inc). There will be maybe 20 shows, maybe 100 and couple of them (like twist) will explode and be the ultimate source of revenue and visitors.

Soon there will be ‘This Week In Everything’ TWIE! A single show, made up of all the other This Week Ins! Jeez…

  • masa

I am enjoying the show. But the hum is pretty annoyng. Hey guys, you are pros! :)

    Keep TWIIPing :)

  • http://www.MacSupport.com Tony Ricciardi

With all these shows, we might need a “This Week in – This Week in Shows”
    A recap if you will… :)

  • http://thisweekin.com thisweekin

All awesome comments … just saying hello so you all know we ARE reading them (this is Mark J by the way :) )

We do absorb this stuff and talk about it — your feedback does go into the next show each time, so please keep it coming.

And I, for one, am not worried about Jason being able to keep doing shows — the man LOVES being front of a camera :)

  • Nick

I would suggest a This Week in Apple instead

Good show, liked it. Those iPad cams are great, good idea. Liked the app reviews, some of those are definitely worth getting the device (Things etc)

The user experience stuff you guys talked about was key, explaining the ipad case Apple provides and some uses. I didn’t know it was rubbery at all, that was new. I thought it would be like a fabric velvety ipod case or something.
It looks a little unstable standing in a horizontal position, even when it’s not near the cables from Jason’s comp.

I tried it out in the Apple store on 5th ave last weekend, it was great, but obviously I couldn’t carry it around my house and watch movies. That kind of advice with a context is definitely worth watching. I’ll probably hold out on getting one, until the camera upgrade and HD Skype!

..So any free iPad giveaways coming up? jk

Great first show guys! it is cool to see more great shows about the iPad. We have been doing The iPad Show for a while and it has been super fun and an amazing success. The iPad is going to be such a big platform it will be good go have a lot of different shows about it. If you every want to come on the show just let me know. We are a huge fan of all your TWI stuff!

    Keep up the great work!

I think it’s fairly obvious what Jason is trying to do with ThisWeekIn – he’s simply rinsing and repeating the formula he used with Weblogs Inc with a view to flipping to AOL or Yahoo. Same business, different medium.

I wish I could watch This Week in iPad…..on my iPad!! Is it just me, or is this only viewable via Flash plugin?

  • http://twitter.com/justinluey Justin Luey

I look to forward to following this podcast, TWIST is great.

The audio version on iTunes won’t download ( April 18, 2010 10.39 PM EST )

  • Tom

This week in iPad won’t play on an iPad is kinda ironic (from the website not iTunes)

  • macdroid

An okay show, was a bit confused by the guy saying he couldn’t watch youtube because it’s all flash – what about the youtube app!!!

  • http://cardonadesigns.com/wordpress Carlos Cardona

Is there enough content for an iPad show? Hopefully this will be more than just an app review show. I also think that maybe a this week in apple is a better idea (yes, I realize that Leo has Mac Break Weekly).

Jason, I know that you think Zuckerburg is a scammer, but have you considered a This week in Facebook? Facebook is hoppin these days!

  • http://none.com Jim Jones

How come this won;t play on the iPad???

  • http://CWSTUDIOS.CO.UK Chris

    Because its flash.

  • rre

This week in iPad not viewable on an iPad…. outrageously bad form!

  • rre
