Introduction

Farrell said she missed doing the show last week and her co-host, Roger Erik Tinch.

Farrell is still undecided how she felt about “The American.” There was a hot sex scene, and she felt that it was really well-shot, but she hated it while she was watching it. It was boring. She also felt it was inaccurately marketed, as a spy thriller.

She also warned the audience that she has adhesives on keeping her boobs inside her dress, as there’s no back to it.

Farrell’s also excited to welcome Matt Lanter to the show tonight. He plays Liam on “90210″ and starred in the parody film “Vampires Suck.”

Trailer Talk

Hobo with a Shotgun

- This is a real film based on a fake trailer created for a contest that was held by Robert Rodriguez after the film “Grindhouse.”

Tamara Drewe

- Stephen Frears directs hot young starlet Gemma Arterton in this British comedy about a writer who returns to her childhood home as it’s being put up for sale.

In Theaters

Machete

Red band trailer

Tinch enjoyed the cameos and some of the performances, but the movie just doesn’t have enough fun with itself. He thinks there just wasn’t enough material to propel it to an entire feature’s length, and it was surprisingly low-energy.

The Romantics

Trailer

Farrell was reminded of “Rachel Getting Married”, mainly because the film is also set at a wedding and similarly uses handheld video for a “home movie” vibe. She felt that it got a bit distracting and dizzying. “Rachel Getting Married,” however, is a more intense, serious film.

Overall, she felt the film was a disappointment, and might have worked better as a play. She hopes Galt Niederhoffer, the director, will mature in the same way that Lisa Cholodenko has, and produce better films down the road. She did think Katie Holmes was as good as she’s ever been in a film.

Hollywood Headlines

IFC Films Picks Up “Super”

James Gunn’s “Super” did so well at Toronto that it got picked up! He tweeted that he was “jerking off” over his deal memo!

The hosts were very excited for him. Farrell noted that, when he was in the studio a few weeks ago, he seemed confident that the film would do well.

Tinch theorized that the film would probably get a big marketing push, and would probably do well in theaters.

Lindsay Lohan Hires Britney Spears Former Manager

Farrell thinks he’s telling her to be smart, not take any deals for now and bide her time. Sources are saying she’s “on lockdown” at the moment. She’s hoping this helps Lindsay’s career, to take some time off. Roger felt that, post-”Machete,” she clearly still has the chops.

Roger Ebert’s “At the Movies” Returns!

Ebert will have new critics as hosts and will be hosting a segment himself called “Roger’s Office” each week.

Farrell notes that a lot of shows like this have failed, and wondered if this one will be different enough to last. She also notes that this is finally some “competition” for This Week in Movies.

James Franco’s “Advocate” Article

He denies the gay rumors and the stoner rumors. He claims that he’d tell everyone if he was gay and wouldn’t care enough to remain closeted.

Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actors

Farrell guessed Shia LeBeouf would make the list, but he doesn’t. He is the most “bang for your buck” actor, grossing the most for the lowest salaries. The top spot on Forbes’ survey was Johnny Depp.

Interview with Matt Lanter

Matt stars in “90210″ as Liam and as Edward in the “Twilight” parody “Vampires Suck”

- You started out as a bat boy for the Atlanta Braves?

He was working in his hometown of Atlanta, and he knew a long-time bat boy. He was a big baseball fan growing up, so he jumped at the change.

- Were you a good baseball player?

He thought he could have when he was 10 years old, but he wasn’t quite professional quality. He played through high school, though, and was decent.

- What was your first big break in terms of acting?

I considers his first big break “Commander-in-Chief,” the TV show with Geena Davis.

- Did you go in to “Vampires Suck” channeling Robert Pattinson?

Well, it’s Edward, not Robert Pattinson. (Farrell lives in a fantasy world).

He noted that Edward’s always looking up and sort of constipated, with the hunched shoulders and generally pained look. That’s the essence of Edward.

- What about his speech?

He studied Robert and the way he did his American accent. But he didn’t really keep it for the whole movie, and he knew it wasn’t going to be an Oscar performance.

- Did you work out for the shirtless scenes?

He didn’t have to take off his shirt during the auditions. He auditioned for either Edward or Jacob, and would have been willing to play each part. He definitely clicked more with the Edward role.

- Did the “Vampires Suck” directors take your opinions about casting?

They felt like it was important for Matt to “click” with the girls, so yes, they would take his feelings into account.

- There’s a scene in the film where you rant about the Kardashians, and then you did a movie with Kim Kardashian. Did she know?

He didn’t write the jokes, and Kim didn’t hold any of it against him.

- Were you nervous about the hardcore “Twilight” fans hating the movie for blasting the trilogy?

The fans are crazy hardcore, and they’re in it for life. He was a little bit nervous, because those fans are his same audience on “90210.” He didn’t want to piss them off.

- “Vampires Suck 2″?

They talked about it, and it did well at the box office. But it’s a bit premature yet to discuss it.

- Would you want to do more comedy, like on a sitcom?

He’d love to do more comedy. His first big job was the sitcom “8 Simple Rules,” but then his part was written out of the final script. The producers then gave him a different one liner to work him in to the show, where David Spade falls into his lap.

He feels like he does have some comedic legs he’d love to stretch out. Liam on “90210″ also has a more sarcastic, fun tone on the upcoming season.

- Did you audition for Liam? What was that like?

They’d had trouble casting for Liam. He went to audition – it was a dark brooding scene where he was punching someone. He chatted first with the casting director and then read for the network.

- Were you nervous?

There’s always a bit of nervousness going on. You’re in front of a lot of people, and you feel like you just get one shot at it, and if you screw it up, your life’s over.

- Any pre-audition rituals?

He jokingly says he does yoga and hums. Really, he just tries not to think about the nerves. His worst all-time audition was his first one ever, for a movie called “Aquamarine.” (About the hour mark)

Looking back on it, he thinks the casting director was toying with him. He was asked to climb up on a table and pretend to surf during the audition.

- You also starred in the sequel to “WarGames” called “The Dead Code.” Tell us about that.

There was a scene where they were running down the street in Montreal, and they didn’t have it blocked off. He loved the original “WarGames,” so it was exciting to be a part of the follow-up. And it was a smart hacker character, which is a kind of role he doesn’t usually get to play. He’s a bit of a computer nerd, and he loves electronics and video games.

- Who’s your favorite female cast member on “90210″?

He can’t choose. They’re all beautiful.

- They announced there’s now going to be a gay character on “90210.” Did they talk to you about that?

He’s not sure that was supposed to come out.

He had not been approached about it, and found out about the rumor from “EW.”

- Were you stressed out about it?

No, he wasn’t. But at the same time, if there’s going to be a huge character change, he’d want to know about it.

- Were you relieved to find out it wouldn’t be you? As a guy, would you have been anxious about filming it?

It would be cool to be able to represent that. And there are sure to be good episodes written for him.

He definitely would have been anxious, and you want to be careful in how you approach stuff like that. You don’t want it to be cheesy.

He did kiss Laurence Fishburne in a play called “Without Walls,” repeatedly.

- Are you like any of your characters?

He’s probably least like Liam. He’s not brooding or dark. He likes to have fun and even get a little goofy. He feels a bit like Horace from “Commander in Chief,” who was overall a good kid.

THE FAME GAME

Matt played a special vampire-themed “Fame Game.”

Farrell pretends to be an actor and offers clues. Matt then has to guess the celebrity:

(1) Brad Pitt (guessed)
(2) SKIPPED
(3) Ashley Greene (guessed)
(4) Nicolas Cage (not guessed)

Here, Matt mentions that he’s the voice of Anakin Skywalker in the cartoon series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” Farrell asked him to do the Anakin voice, but it turns out to be very similar to his own voice, just more authoritative.

- Is there going to be “90210″/“Gossip Girl” crossover?

If so, Liam would probably go for Leighton Meester.

“90210″ starts on Monday. Tons of juicy drama. Liam has a brother entering the cast, there’s an earthquake this season. Plus a lot of hook-ups and break-ups.
