This Week in Social Media #11 with Alex Iskold, Founder & CEO of GetGlue

Fridays at 4pm (PDT)

Interview

This week we spoke to Alex Iskold, the Founder and CEO of GetGlue. GetGlue is a social network built around entertainment. The service delivers recommendations and connects you with others who have a similar “taste graph”. An individual’s “taste graph” is built around the movies, TV shows, music and books a user likes and checks into. Check out this great overview video.

Topic

The spoofs of The Social Network trailer are still coming. A couple weeks back we discussed the MySpace spoof. The latest is the Twitter trailer. The video is quite funny and definitely worth a look.

News

Twitter releases official Tweet button.
Twitter is licensing Tweetmeme’s retweet technology. Tweetmeme currently generates 750 million impressions a day. TweetMeme is migrating away from the retweet and focusing on TweetMeme Pro which offers customized solutions and analytics for businesses. They are also launching a new product call DataSift which is geared towards developers who want to build curation of the firehose into their applications.

Invisible Note, the chatroulette of penpals.
This new service allows you to connect with e-pen-pals by anonymously sending out emails to a random address. If both addresses are sent to, the service connects each user.

MySpace revamped the user homepage.
MySpace’s user homepage is now a lot cleaner and offers a discovery module in a 2 column layout. These changes come ahead of the much anticipated relaunch which is coming in October.

Great Moment in Social Media

This week a fast one was pulled over the internet as the viral post of a girl quitting her job with 33 dry erase boards turned out to me a hoax and marketing ploy by the site theCHIVE.
